In ancient times, the King of Paroh is savagely murdered with his wife and servants in his castle by mercenaries from the Gohra army. Only his children, Prince Remus and his twin sister Princess Linda managed to escape during the massacre in the surrounding forest. Quickly caught up by bloodthirsty murderers, they are saved by a strange-warrior with the face of a leopard. Suffering from amnesia, the mysterious savior only remembers his name: Guin. Twins explain him their situation and decides to help Guin hoping to learn more about its origins. On their way, they meet some allies including a young girl from an ape-people, a mage and a mercenary by the name of Isht Van. The small group will rally the tribes Sem and legendary giants, the Lagons, to expel the invaders and to avenge the massacre committed by Gohra.

The manga is following close to the novel...

Thank you for the release.

I was actually looking for this manga, since I saw the Japanese anime on a Russian game show. Sadly I forgot the name until now [;

Whoa, this going to be one long series...

I don't know how far the manga will go, it's slow and the author died. I hope it continues for at least some volumes and follows the main story so far...
The OVA wasn't that good actually, it was kind of cliche like a Final Fantasy game nowadays (Guin! Suni! Rinda!). The manga is more like Berserk regarding the art and the atmosphere.

There's a second series called 'The Seven Magi' with only 3 volumes but we won't scanlate it. It's more like a shounen and the artwork is really weak. Beside, it tells a side-story in the future of Guin Saga and you have to know a bit of the background story to understand something. I donnu why VIZ published Seven Magi and not the main Guin Saga instead...

I don't think so Tim.

even though  people are sliced in too (pretty graphically), it has religious overtones, and halfway through the first book, a young girl has a vision of being raped by a half rotten old man.

i know it's not exactly super-mature, and it's not a black and white kinda thing. thats why i said i feel its more seineny that it's made out in the description

Violence Jack has way worse and it's considered to be one of the standards in shounen.
Shounen is about what would appeal to young boys, example: Manly men being manly and kicking ass (Fist of the North Star, Jojo etc...)
If you look to the current shounen jump as to what is shounen than you would be incorrect, WSJ is a shounen/shoujo, it's designed to appeal to both girls and boys, that's why there's so little sex and violence.

fair enough. was just my opinion.

i meant that the feeling i got from the art and the mood in this title just doesnt strike me as that shounen-like.
if you want to compare it to big weekly titles in SJ, then compare it to OP/bleach/naruto. it's nothing like them.

Violence Jack has way worse and it's considered to be one of the standards in shounen.
Shounen is about what would appeal to young boys, example: Manly men being manly and kicking ass

so why is shin angyo onshi or vinland saga classified as a seinen then? when the subject matter in that is much less violent and sexual than violence jack or HnK.

and yes, seinen is to appeal to older males, so what is the subject matter in seinen?:
apart from the horror or pure psychological titles, it's manly men doing manly stuff, with a bit more psychology and more involving storylines, with direct sexual references rather than suggestive ones. i'd say Guin has all of those

Personally, I don't know much about manga classifications, but after reading the first chapter I could only reinforce what mono is saying.

Yet another series that got me instantly hooked. When I read the summary for the first time, I thought it would be simply another high fantasy title. But after finding out that it is based on a very long series of light novels, which is not even completed by the time the author died, I just knew that I was looking at something terrific. And yes it does live up to all my expectations.

About the Berserk references, I find that Guin is more likable as a main character than Guts. Especially since his character is already so developed (immense combat skills, vast language fluency, seemingly infinite wisdom etc) but also so empty of ulterior motives (with his amnesia) at the same time. But this is just my opinion.

I love these action adventure fantasy stories. At first I thought Guin looked ridiculous but the art style makes it work.
True, it somewhat reminds me of Berzerk.

Oh Thank you Thank you

I was looking for this manga eerywhere, I'm a fan of Guin Saga(I think all the medieval Fantasy stories). I even buy the the first book in amazon, but i'm still waiting for it.

Guin is one of my favorite characters, although in the anime he has a strong resemblance with King and latter with Armored King from TEKKEn but I like it anyway.
