WARNING !  a ps2 game can only be burned on special dvd's that are bootable from a ps2 otherwise the game won't work (i tried it :p ) it will however work from a ps2 emu on the pc (work is a relative term here it depends on your pc's specs and on how well the emu works)

if i remember correctly there was a second way to make a game playbale from a regular dvd, but that involved physicly altering the ps2 ... anyway if you really want to google/yahoo (pick the one you want)
is your friend

you have been warned

That's not how you play burnt PS2 games on your PS2. You don't need to burn them on special DVDs but I'd imagine even the softmod with hdloader is much too difficult for most of the people on this forum.

I don't think i'm entirly wrong

nomal data dvd aren't bootable rom a p2. in order to play them without altering the ps2 you'd have to burn them on a dvd that is already engraved with a pattern for the  ps2

if i remmeber correctly the method you are reffering to implies taking of the lid and replacing it by a little piece of hardware that enables you to remove the cd containing the  hdloader without letting the ps2 know you removed the cd (when you remove a cd the the temporary date it had is removed. so if you don't replace the lid you won't be able to use the hdloader) thus enabling you to put the dvd with the game and loading it tnx to the program still in it's memory

so even when you use a hdloader you have to alter the ps2 wicht means voiding the waranty

in case you know of another way i would really love to know

"Softmod" implies only software based modding and that you don't need additional modchips (or a fliptop as per your example.) I'm not terribly sure on the softmod/HDloader way since I opted to mod my PS2 but if you google it, you should be able to find the limitations on what works and instructions on how to do it. Upon googling it myself, it seems you are stuck with games on the hard drive itself rather than being able to play burnt PS2 games but a decent hard drive should do it.
