The whole series is translated. Typestting of vol4 is done, it's passing the proofread+qc test.
I've devised a way to make the typesetting of the next volumes a little bit faster. I have to rework the scripts for compatibility reasons first. And I just have to actually do it.
Unless someone wants to step in and do it in my place. All I'm asking for is a competent typesetter.

Gantz Waiting Room / Koike Keiichi - ASTROID and Shadowman
« on: May 11, 2016, 03:49:10 PM »
Two short stories by Koike Keiichi :

- ASTROID : an unfinished short story published in various magazines. The first publication was in "Gekkan Agama", in 1989-1991. 19 chapters were published in it. Then the first two chapters appeared in "Error" vol.00, in 2000. And finally, three parts, representing the 11 first chapters, were published in the three issues of MEGA HELLz magazine in 2006.
This release contains the MHz version.

- Shadowman : this one was published in 1985 in Comic OZ vol.01, a collection of works by various artists.

Gantz Waiting Room / Re: The Otomo Committee

Arh.... I know, man. I too wish to see the end of this project. It's not in sight yet. But we haven't given up on it either.

I've been pretty swamped irl this last year, and I don't think it'll get much quieter in the future. The translator has been quite busy too.
I should add that, for a time, him and I have focused our scanlation efforts towards other projects (the scanlation of Jodorowsky's comicbooks ; you can find our releases on KAT). It's been a good change of pace compared to manga.
But I digress.

I can't give you any ETA for our next Otomo release, unfortunately. All I can say is that it's likely to be the remaining chapter of Sayonara Nippon, to have at least a completed book. For the rest, it's still in limbo.
Not quite what you hoped for, I'm afraid. Sorry.

A little something.
Sorry, please read the forum rules to see why you can't view spoilers and why you can't post in this forum section. Thank you!
Top left is a double-page from Koike Keiichi published in "Moebius and Japanese manga special issue" of Eureka, July 2009. For your viewing pleasure :
Bottom left is another Koike's work, a short story published in "Native American Indian Philosophy" (forgive the translation) in 2011.
On the right is the first issue of Comic OZ, a collection of short stories printed in 1985.
And I'm halfway through the translation of Kiichi vol.8.

I guess we're all some sort of satellites now.
Had to step away from the hobbies because I was pretty preoccupied with my work. But it's getting quieter again there, so I'm coming back to scanlating, albeit at snail speed.
Kiichi vol4 almost done, after two months... I'll finish this series, whatever it takes, don't worry nahu !
(If someone could lend a hand to typeset the rest, that'd be super helpful though)

Other projects on the side :
scanlation of the Alef-Thau comicbook series (from author Jodorowky and artist Arno) with our friends at Roselia. Translation's done and the typesetting is almost finished.
I'm translating Face de Lune (from Jodorowsky too, but with artist Boucq this time). Two thirds of vol2 done right now.
I've also just received some new Koike stuff. Or rather, old Koike stuff. You'll see.

Volume 4 is almost cleaned and redrawn, typesetting starts next week.
Volume 5 is cleaned (not redrawn) and translated.
Volume 6 is cleaned (not redrawn) and translated.
Volume 7 is cleaned (not redrawn) and almost completely translated.
Volume 8 is almost competely cleaned (not redrawn).
Volume 9 is cleaned (not redrawn).

Gantz Waiting Room / Koike Keiichi - Katajikenai
« on: May 18, 2015, 08:54:50 AM »
It's been a while, isn't it ?...

Koike Keiichi's Katajikenai :

A metaphorical depiction of Japan's apprehension concerning the advance of western culture in the country during the period preceding the Meiji Era.
Historical figures and psychedelic experiences are on the menu.

Well, you'll have to wait until we do them. (oh, the cruel wait!)

Could you please translate Kibun wa mou sensou ?
We will, eventually. The volume is already cleaned. Don't worry (too much).

Hi i'm new in this forum. You make excellent work. I'm a big otomo fan and i really want to try  translating some oneshots in German.
Is it possible to use otomo's oneshots scanlations from this site? Or  the RAW's?
You're welcome. And you're also welcome to use our work to translate it into German (but please mention us in the credits).

Oh, nice ! Thanks for the info. That's quite the old-school comic you bring up here. I've never heard of it (but then again, there's so many wonderful comics I have yet to discover). Apparently, part of El Eternauta has been published in french, three volumes from Oesterheld, and one other volume of the more recent version from Breccia. I'll try to check it out. The setting seems interesting, all the more considering the period during which it was first published.

Yup, translating on my own, from french to english. I wish I could translate from japanese, but I never managed to learn the language. Everytime I started, I lost the pace after a few days and quit... I'd need a proper teacher...

We're barely alive. Lone survivor here... working intermitently. (I did finish translating Desert Punk vol. 11, 12 and 13; translating Kiichi vol.3 right now).

The translators of Doro 7 were apperently markus and lilas. I've never had any contact with them, it was before I joined the team, so I can't help you to contact them, sorry.
As for the translation you had problem with, "Mai kewl devil" => "My cool devil" ⋍ "handsome devil". You know, the little demon they've got in their brains.

Holy crap !
I fcked up the export. Didn't notice it.

A lesson that I fail to learn yet again, it seems : do not make last minute modifications, ever.

Thank you nahu, I've uploaded a v2 and updated the link.

Yeah, Desert Punk is still ongoing. At least, vol15 came out this year in Japan.

You're luck I still have them. Links updated.

« on: November 08, 2014, 08:17:59 AM »
Yep, I'm around. Pretty much alone now, battling to keep the skiff afloat...

Working on
- Katajikenai, redrawing and waiting for a counter-proof.
- The World Is Mine, redrawing vol.14. (you were right Rev! There's so much of it to be done!)
- and some Otomo's, mainly waiting for translations.

I'll lay the groundwork for the translations of Desert Punk vol. 12 and 13 this weekend. Will surely start these translations in a week or two, after I finish translating Alef-Thau, a french comicbook series from writer Jodorowsky and (now defunct) artist Arno. Half of vol.6 is done for this one, and two more volumes to go.

I may also scan a new surprise treat this weekend as well.

I am working on scanlating the last four volumes of The World is Mine.
Feeling courageous !
I thought you guys have given up on it, which is why I said fuck it and started working alone.
We didn't really gave it up, but you know, other easier projects, ever shrinking manpower, lack of time to recreate a real team, irl surprises, blablablah. This project has had to be put on the back burner, like so many others.
Through Spinoza (THANK YOU for this gem, huge fan of Koike here), I found myself here and learned that you are actually interested in doing TWIM.
You're very welcome. And yes, we're definitely interested in finishing TWIM.
My work so far has been to clean all four volumes using public raws and to translate them, from French
Awesome ! That's quite a lot for a single person considering the density of these volumes.
I offer you to join forces with me and release all four volumes soon, as most of the work is done.
How could we ever say no when someone comes forward with his hands full of gifts, hm?
I hope you are not put off by the French-English translation as opposed to Japanese-English.
Oh no, don't worry. As long as your translation actually means something and doesn't drift too much from what you based it from, it should be alright. We did it on numerous occasions when we had no jap->eng translator available. Which is always.
I plan on releasing the volumes in any case so even if you turn down my offer, let this post act as a heads-up that someone else is working on the manga.
Anybody can do a scanlation of anything if they wish to. We have no right to claim ownership over something we've got no rights on to begin with. So, no matter who releases it in the end, as long as the work is done properly, it's fine by me.
There are also some other things I want to discuss if you do decide to accept my offer.
Then we shall continue this in private, eh? :D
Throw me a pm and we'll see what comes out of it.

Gantz Waiting Room / Koike Keiichi - Spinoza
« on: September 16, 2014, 03:37:51 AM »
Sudden attack !

Here's a little gem that connoisseurs will appreciate to its full extent : Spinoza by Koike Keiichi.

As you may (or may not) know, this series is almost impossible to find in book format, and when we stumble on used copies, their prices are prohibitive, to say the least. But, with a little digging (thanks to the Wikipedia page dedicated to Koike Keiichi), it appeared that this work has also been published in a magazine. A photo magazine to be precise. Photo Japon to be even more precise.

And the magazines are cheaper than the books. So, with the help of a friend, I was able to buy some copies of the issues it's been printed in, and voilà !

Spinoza has been printed in 7 issues of Photo Japon, from december 1985 to june 1986.

Each issue contains a whole chapter, printed on one page. The format is that of a contact sheet, with the pages shrinked to fit on a single page.
7 contact sheets, 62 pages per sheet, plus 7 chapter pages.

— How come the archive is so massive if it's only 7 pages !?
Well, it's unlikely we'll ever see scans of the books. So, considering the rarity of this work and the size of the pictures, I decided to scan them at 1200dpi, and reduced them to 600dpi for the release. And I also included the scans of the magazines' covers, for completeness sake.

Enjoy !
