I found quite a few Korean threads on the board, but it seems it's not on the Master List  :hi:
Also, Indonesian is almost same with Malaysian, just a very few variations, almost like dialects- at least that's what I felt while I was learning..?

My mother tongue is Korean, but because I haven't been living in Korea for a while, I am honestly more comfortable with English, which makes it three fluent languages for me.

It should have been four, but.. I don't think I am fluent in Chinese anymore after not using it for years, at least in reading.. Which I am regretting badly. Learning same language for the second time is a bit tedious.. :onionfacepalm:

Hey there)
I speak Russian (native), English and German. I also teach the latter two, which helps a lot to keep "fluent". Reading French is more comfortable for me than actually speaking it, since most people don't have patience with my slow tempo.  :stabby:
Currently learning Korean and admiring Japanese)))

It is rare for me to find something on the cyberspace that’s as entertaining and fascinating as what you’ve got here. Your page is lovely, your graphics are outstanding, and what’s more, you use source that are relevant to what you are talking about. You are certainly one in a million, well done!
Sorry, please read the forum rules to see why you can't view spoilers and why you can't post in this forum section. Thank you!

The trick is to define 'fluency'.  I only consider myself 'fluent' in one language: English.  But I can read and conjugate in 3 others (Russian, German, Arabic).  I can sortof follow along in most Romance languages due to their similarity and my penchant for etymology (words, not bugs).  Now I'm trying to teach myself Japanese.  I'm not always successful at learning (why did I ever think I wanted to learn Scots Gaelic??), but any new knowledge is a good thing.

So, yeah, I marked '1' on the poll.

Oh - and if some of the intro phrases are amazingly formal, why are others so familiar?

Cheers,

Rube

I can speak three languages fluently : French, English and Vietnamese.
In fact, I'm more fluent in French since I can speak, talk and read. As for English, I still have problem with pronunciation. Vietnamese is my native language, but I can only speak and listen. I barely read and write it. Although I can read Vietnamese when it's on karaoke. :maikka:
By the way...the picture for the sub-forum has a huge spelling mistake for Vietnamese. It should be "Anh có khỏe không?" instead of "Anh có kho không?"

I took french in HS, but the only non english I'm relatively fluent in is Japanese now, and its still  work in progress... Damn things kinda hard to get used to...

I took 2 years of French in HS and I came away with

Je ne sais pas, Je ne comprends pas, and Qui est ton papa?  ...The last one of which was not taught to me by my instructor.  <_<  Then again, our instructor was a drunk who was absent more often than not.

Romanian(my native language)
English(like my second native language cause I use it frequently)
French(at school and I have read some comics in French,I also have met some French people)
German(I have learned some German when I was 5 y.o,and watched a lot of animes in German,I also have read some novels in German)
Spanish & Italian(for me it is easy to understand both of those languages because they are both latin languages, and my native language is also a latin language so)

I think it would be a good idea to at least teach American kids Spanish considering the widespread use of the language in the country.
Spanish is kind of a vehicular language in my city because of millions of Hispanic people that live here...

Is better for children to learn other language so they would adept to the world society

I agree.  And it's easier for kids to learn languages--they're geared towards it as opposed to adults.  I think it would be a good idea to at least teach American kids Spanish considering the widespread use of the language in the country.  Another good idea would be French considering Canda.  It's always best to try and learn the languages of the countries next to you.  =(

I wonder who actually only speaks one language? :hahaha:

That would  be me.   :hi:  Fluently, at any rate.  With a dictionary and a bit of patience from my partner in a conversation, I can stumble my way through about two more, but I don't consider myself "fluent" in those.  Fluency implies being able to converse freely in most conversations without handicaps (needing a dictionary/having to ask after words/having to avoid entire topics all together because you don't have the vocabulary/not knowing most grammatical rules/etc).  I suppose my standards are higher than others because at this point, I could probably stumble my way through Spanish without a dictionary but I still don't count it.

Crippled by the American education policy.  :pout:

@Marat: Thanks.
