"par for the course." It's a golf phrase. Par is the number of strokes you're expected to take to be "standard" on a given course, so, "par for the course." In other words, you're right on track.
I never considered the military as an option just because it wasn't me. That doesn't mean I would discourage you from enlisting, however, especially in the Air Force. I actually know a guy in the Air Force; he's an engineer who works on jets and absolutely loves his job.
Being afraid for the future is pretty normal, too, and it just means that you're smart enough to realize the uncertainties that lie ahead of you. My best advice for you is to carefully weigh your options, find out what's best for you and jump. Just jump. No one ever got anywhere just sitting on the fence. I wish that I would have jumped more in my life.
